Frederick Douglass, born February 1818, was a former slave and leader of abolition movement, he held a high ranking in government (first of blacks).
-"That I am here to-day is, to me, a matter of astonishment as well as of gratitude."
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful, he is saying this speech in regard of himself and his gratefulness,
-"It is the birth day of your National Independence, and of your political freedom."
The 4th of July is the birthday of America, freedom rings on that day, National Independence is important to all American citizens.
-"The cause of liberty may be stabbed by the men who glory in the deeds of your fathers. But, to proceed."
Frederick is saying that the reason for freedom is being stabbed by the men who are overpowering the leaders.
-"Citizens, your fathers made good that resolution. They succeeded; and to-day you reap the fruits of their success."
Resolution is solving a problem or dispute. They solved the problem of July 4th, and ever since that day they have celebrated because of the victory.
-"Pride and patriotism, not less than gratitude, prompt you to celebrate and to hold it in perpetual remembrance."
Having pride for our country should be brought about, everyone should remember this day of happiness, be thankful, always keep a remembrance in your head.

Compromise of 1850- Due to divisions over slavery, the Mexican American War came about, they resolved this with the Compromise of 1850. They admitted States free and they questioned Slavery in certain states.

Abolitionists and Women's Rights
There are many similarities between the abolitionist movement and the antebellum women rights. Both the Seneca Falls Declaration and Frederick Douglass speech talked about equality, either about slavery or about women. Both of these were talking about equality. The Speech and the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, in 1848, related back to the Declaration of Independence. In the Seneca Falls Declaration it stated rights that were in the Declaration of Independence but also referred back to what they were saying in the rest of the Declaration. "We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men and women are created equal:" In the first sentence down it states rights. In Frederick Douglass speech, in 1852, he talked about the equal rights, he also talks about 4th of July, and how slaves don't have that opportunity because they are not free. "There are forces in operation, which must be inevitably, work the downfall of slavery." Which also relates back to equality for slaves and men and women. Everyone must recreated equal, both the speech and Seneca Declaration showed that!

India's forced laborers get a taste of freedom
Source:
Headline:
Freedom should be among all people, they are not forced to work.
Summary:
- The Freedom Project met a woman, with no words but they found she is not being forced to work and she is taking home a wage.
- Even though these workers in India are unskilled and do not know about the work ethic they are getting paid under wage, they are not bonded laborers.
- An activist, Bhanuja Lal Saran said that so much has changed in the last 5 years, he said people now know the meaning of not being free, you will be prosecuted, it is breaking the law. "Government is more active and accountable."
- After CNN visited a brick kiln came about this is where workers got time off, and children did not have to work, this is a small start, the activist said that they have hope, "brick by brick."
Analysis:
I believe that India is not always put out there and they are not known to freedom, they are not always noticed, which is hard for people to detect the amount of freedom allowed. In India, children and the people are forced to work, but now since the freedom project, and CNN brought this rural area about, things have changed, the government noticed them, they became more involved with their nation. Freedom is an important role in history today, with no freedom we would have no rights, we would be forced into things, it would not be right. It is relevant to everyone's life, and their role in government. It is has big impact politically, and socially, without government getting involved with their freedom it would have never changed.

Transcendentalism |
Ralph Waldo Emerson quote: "What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you."
"Nature always wears the colors of the spirit."
His quote is basically saying that your choices produce the outcome of you actions, what you look ahead or look in the past lies beneath your personal own being. He is sending a message to people.
Henry David Thoreau quote: "What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals."
"Things do not change; We change."
When you achieve your goals, you are learning at the same time, and believing you can do something and then doing. Henry is saying that you become someone different than before, achieving your goal, makes you confident in oneself, it is the outcome after.
The picture above shows the three parts of transcendentalism, which is made of God, man, and nature. It is emphasizing the three main parts, and having a better understanding of reality.

Trail of Tears
In 1838 through 1839, the Cherokee Nation was forced to give up its land east of the Mississippi River, and then to migrate to Oklahoma. The Federal government made thousands of people move from their homelands and migrate, and walk to what we know as the "Indian Territory", across from the Mississippi River. Indian removal took place in the north as well, such as Illinois and Wisconsin most of their land belonged to the Natives. This Indian Removal law made it require to negotiate removal treaties fairly. Just about 4,000 people died from hunger, exposure and disease. The Black Hawk War was fought between the United States and the Native Americans, they wanted to reclaim the land that they had in 1804 treaty without bloodshed. the Second Seminole War was when the United States would decide if all Indians in Florida should move to the Indian territory in the West. Today they know this as The Trail of Tears. The president at the time was Andrew Jackson, he made controversial decisions.
