Changes in Ownership
Changes in ownership affects how the slaves work and live. It changes the mood, and the structure of working. During 12 years a Slave Solomon Northrup gets moved to several different plantations and comes across different masters and mistress'. He witnesses there different ways of working and also how each plantation is for living conditions. Some masters are more strict and harmful then others. For example Mr. Ford was a pretty nice master, I mean all masters aren't nice if they are working in slavery. Mr. Ford also new about Platt's violin skills, he let him play and even paid him a little bit when he deserved it. But on the other hand another master named Epps treated Solomon awful, just like any other slave or runaway. Epps would tell him to do something and hire an overseer to watch him work, Solomon stood up for himself and ended up being hung and whipped until he sobbed. In that condition, he made buildings and there was a certain way to do it. I think that the living conditions all depend on your work skill, and most of all your owner. You have to work for freedom, and to stay alive you have to do what your told or you will receive harsher treatments.
