Trail of Tears

In 1838 through 1839, the Cherokee Nation was forced to give up its land east of the Mississippi River, and then to migrate to Oklahoma. The Federal government made thousands of people move from their homelands and migrate, and walk to what we know as the "Indian Territory", across from the Mississippi River. Indian removal took place in the north as well, such as Illinois and Wisconsin most of their land belonged to the Natives. This Indian Removal law made it require to negotiate removal treaties fairly. Just about 4,000 people died from hunger, exposure and disease. The Black Hawk War was fought between the United States and the Native Americans, they wanted to reclaim the land that they had in 1804 treaty without bloodshed. the Second Seminole War was when the United States would decide if all Indians in Florida should move to the Indian territory in the West. Today they know this as The Trail of Tears. The president at the time was Andrew Jackson, he made controversial decisions.
